May 9 - 15, 2010: National Police Week
Blue Knights Chapter Pennsylvania V is currently planning a ride event to the National Police Memorial in Washington, D.C. during National Police Week. Details of the ride event will be posted here when they are finalized. Mark your calendars! National Police Week 2010 will take place May 9-15. The 22nd Annual Candlelight Vigil at the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial will take place on the evening of Thursday, May 13. Watch the NLEOMF website for more information and a complete schedule for National Police Week 2010. National Police Week occurs each year during the week in which May 15 falls - a time when the nation pauses to recognize the service and sacrifice of U.S. law enforcement. Established by a joint resolution of Congress in 1962, National Police Week pays special tribute to those law enforcement officers who have lost their lives in the line of duty for the safety and protection of others. Ceremonies are held in Washington, DC, and in communities across the country. In the nation's capitol, National Police Week features a number of special events and moving tributes: Various other special events- a pipeband march, an honor guard competition, a motorcycle Law Ride and more- take place in and around the Memorial during National Police Week. In general, National Police Week events are free and open to the public, and no advance registration is required (with the exception of the National Police Survivors' Conference). So whether you're in Washington, DC, or your own community, show your support for our nation's law enforcement officers during National Police Week. And don't forget to lower your American flag to half staff on May 15, Peace Officers Memorial Day- it's the law.
